Leading UK engineering consultants, Mouchel Parkman have developed and successfully trialled in the US a new technology involving retrofit of "micro-turbines" in mains water and wastewater systems where there is a measurable difference in pressure and available flow.
Already around 100 sites have been identified as suitable for this technology, perhaps as early as next year. Each "micro-turbine" is capable of generating several kilowatts of energy, so in total these sites could potentially provide enough energy to illuminate 45 Eiffel Towers - or, rather more relevant to the British - boil enough water for 24,000 mugs of tea every hour!
